Gamespot Editor Fired for Negative Review

It seems that we are not in a land of free-speech after all. Gamespot editor Jeff Gerstmann was fired yesterday after giving Kane & Lynch: Dead Men a bad review. In the review, he stated that "Kane & Lynch is an ugly, ugly game" and "if you have a chance to see it, take a look - but it's probably not worth the purchase".

Someone at Eidos decided that this was not appropriate considering their massive advertising campaign on the site, and the poor guy got fired. Nice.

The irony of it is that the user score of the game has dropped to 2.6, as legions of disgruntled gamers vote the game 1.0 - Abysmal. If Eidos wanted negative publicity, this was exactly the right way to go about it.

This just proves my point that the gaming media is corrupt. Games which are getting 9.0 are suspect to me.

Unbelievable. If you can't give an honest review, what's the point? As a media outlet, you're supposed to remain unbiased and report accurately, without outside influence. Gamespot just took a major hit to their credibility with that.

One thing I don't understand is that while everyone is PO'd at GS, why isn't anyone bashing all the other media outlets which spew out 9.0+ reviews for every major title which is released?

It seems to me that the only mainstream reviewer with any integrity is Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation.

Because the other sites havn't fired anyone for they're reviews.

Just check metacritic, they have user reviews that are usually pretty accurate.

I'd like to know why Jeff hasn't said anything.

Thats what I like about Spectrum always demanding that we are honest. I had a game a while back I PM'd him on and pretty much said it was horrible and I was worried about giving them a bad review but he insisted that I was honest and just said what I felt.

Free Speech is really disappearing in this county though. It only goes so far and then someone takes over and puts you in your place.

You want honesty in a review check out that old review I did on Marvel RIse of the imperfects. That was was just horrible I did the same thing you did i pm'ed the editor at the time and she said send it in. If your not going to be honest in your reviews then you dont need to be reviewing. Or rather if your not going to be honest dont review for gamespot for apparently.
