Default Are 360 Games Disappointing?

I've heard more than a few people around here (here meaning here phsycially where I am living, not necesarily here on GA) saying that current 360 games are kind of disappointing both in quality and selection. I've heard suspicions that this is because most developers are waiting for the PS3 to come out so they can publish their games for both systems simultaneously... does that make any sense to you all?

I'm not an Xboxer so I'm really not too familiar with what you have out there, but given the outrageous PS3 entrance fee, I'm either buying into a Wii or a 360 this coming winter and I want to start making my decision early.

And when is this lauded Gears of War supposed to come out? From what I hear it sounds great.

From what I have heard, current 360 games are a bit underwhelming. There is no "killer app" out for it yet.

Gears of War is slated for Q4 2006. And Halo 3 is sometime in 2007. I'm going to wait for those two before I pass judgement. The system has a lot of potential -- especially with the excellent job they did with the controller. I think I'm going to pick up a controller for use on my PC because they're just so darn comfortable.

Basically there is no STAND OUT game out there yet that you GOTTA have. Like HALO! And the game developers are still not using the full potential of the 360's capabilities. Another 3-6 months and you will start seeing some huge improvements I am sure of it and also Halo 3!!

That won't happen for a few years yet. Developers are still pushing the PS2 to its limits. Black has been the best utilizer of the PS2's abilities, yet they still could have eeked out more, it was said. I can't imagine developers have even touched the middle of the tip of the iceberg for the 360.

If Bungie can pull off what they claim, Halo 3 will be simply astounding and will make the 360 the winner of the next-gen console war, at least between MS and Sony.

I've only not enjoyed one XBOX360 game so far that I've played/owned. And that was Madden 2006. To me it was utter crap, so many things taken out of it that it wasn't even a real football game. To me anyways.

Condemned is great
As 'kiddie' as it might seem Kameo was awesome.
Table Tennis is addictively fun
Fifa World Cup 06 is the same
Ghost Recon is awesome
Oblivion was pretty amazing, but most people won't consider it a 'killer app' because it's also on the PC
MLB2k6, although it has it's flaws, still is a pretty good game of baseball
Perfect Dark Zero is still the best multiplayer action you can find on the 360, and that's a good thing.
Burnout Revenge was pretty fricken fun too.

What are the biggest obstacles for the 360 right now and will be for the PS3? Price and difference between the XBOX and PS2. With the 360 and the PS3 games ranging in price between 50-70 dollars, most people are not seeing the graphical jump that warrants the extra 10-20+ bucks.

Also, I think 'ports' are the downfall of a new system in its early years....and for those that think the PS3 will be immune to it...think again...as long as the PS2 and XBOX are viable systems (which they are at this piont, for at least another year) there will be ports...and that sucks... I'm just waiting for the day when a company just says "Yep, we're just doing XBOX360 and PS3 from here on out." Once that day comes...we'll see a huge improvement in games.

But, like Phlak said...just wait until this holiday season...there are going to be some mind blowing games coming out for the XBOX360...

Gears of War
Viva Pinata
Crackdown
Splinter Cell: Double Agent (i know there will be one on every system, but the 360 one looks like its going to be crazy good)
Rainbow Six Vegas
Too Human
Alan Wake
Winning Eleven Pro Evo Soccer 2007
Lost Planet
Dead Rising
Ninety Nine Nights
Forza Motorsport 2

and much much more..

But, just look at my title...i'm just a fanboy for the XBOX In my mind, the PS3 will ahve to be MIND BLOWINGLY AWESOME for it to trump the 360 at this point.

It might melt

Honestly, most systems are just as slow out the gate I think. If Halo sucked, what else would there be in the first year to play on the Xbox? The N64 had a huge drought throughout. The problem is that Perfect Dark Zero just wasn't the killer app they hoped it would be and now people are getting antsy

this argument goes back to what fundamentaly happened with the PS2 release ....
many of the game developer didnt know the hardware capabilites ...and the first games releazed for the system "sucked" ..... ( i remember many people had that ice snowboarding game with somewhat killer graphics but crappy game play .... or wait ... was it the other way around ??? )

so is just a matter of time .... prgrammers and developers have to get acustomed to the 360 and then the true potential will be unleash periodically .....
there is of course the possibility of some games being held back for the PS3 release to be published simultaneously on both platforms but then again, this is not very likely since MS has many proprietary and exclusive to console releases ....
and finally, there's always the genre that you mostly preffer ... while there's not a killer "title" for the 360, is all based upon what you play .... for me ..... i'd say PGR 3 is the killer one but since there's no other console out there or game to compare it against, i cant really say this is a "hit" ....
.... ( please insert 2 cents ) 1 cent per credit

Cool 360 dirt

The Xbox 360 is awsome and a little dissapointing at the same time. What i mean by that is... Yes the games are a little dissapointing, but dont down size it just yet. The system is still new, and it still hard to program, not to mention most games are just ports from current systems. Every system when they first come out if ya thing about it people will bash it regardless. I mean hey... the graphics on the dreamcast were better looking than the PS2 when it first came out and now look at the graphics on the PS2 (God of War), looks much better. Give it some time, let the developers figure the 360 out completely before you pass judgement. There are a few good games out there- Oblivion and Prey. Prey is freaking awesome!!! I myself am the proud owner of the Premium Xbox 360, and i have 26 games to go with it, includng the complete collectors editions of Oblivion and Prey. Wait Wait Wait... back up let me correct myself- all systems struggle at first except for Nintendo for some reason. and the WII with be awesome. Just give it some time 360 games will awe inspiring. And yeah the PS3 will probably look nice and yes the CELL processor will be a Juggernaut of a Processor, but no one will want to make excusive games for it cuz its just way to insainely hard to work with, Sony has already dumded down the power of that processor by a lot. The CELL processor and Blu-Ray are still just way to far off and were not ready for it, technology is just not advanced enough. Face it people Blu-Ray is gonna crash and burn, just like Beta-match or whatever did the VHS destroyed it.

lol eagle. Betamax

Too bad too, Betamax was far superior (still is too) to VHS. In fact, it's pretty much what the TV stations adopted out of the gate...but price and availability will win everytime
