Default OMG this 6800GT is driving me insane

I'm building a computer for my buddy, and everything is going along fine so far....until now. I'm having issues with the graphics card, specifically, finding the correct drivers for this thing.

First off, here are the computer's specs

AMD 64bit 3200+
Some ECS mobo
80gb HD
1gb PC3200 ram
500 watt psu
6800 GT

So I installed the OS, and since this mobo has no onboard video it worked fine with the 6800gt from the start. It installed some generic drivers and the display would work, but it wasn't that great. I hoped on my laptop and grabbed the latest drivers for the generic GeForce line from Nvidia's website, but it didn't seem right. It can run fear at medium, but I feel this system should be able to handle high without lag at every shot. Then I tried to play Quake4 and got a weird error message. It said "NVIDIA display driver files from different (incompatible) versions of the driver have been detected. Blah blah blah". WTF! So I try to run NFR (Nvidia Nasty File Remover), but the program just won't install properly. Everytime I run it, it tells me I am missing a file and that the program needs to download it from the site...but it never connects to the site, and the only page I can find that has it is majorgeeks and guru3d. DAMN. I went into device manager and uninstalled the 6800GT drivers from there, and tried a driver from guru3d (9728), but it gave me a blue screen when I booted. I booted in safe mode, uninstalled the driver from the device manager, and restarted, then installed the one from Nvidia's site, and I still got those same weird error messages. I uninstalled the drivers one more time and grabbed a different driver from guru3d (93.81 Forceware), but it still gives me those freaking errors! Does anyone know of a Nvidia cleaner other than NFR???!?!? Help me....I'm so frustrated....

Are all of your chipset drivers installed correctly? Have you tried the cd that came with the card.....makes no difference but you never know.

Also do you have the latest directx installed? If not than you might be trying to install a driver made for that specific directx.

Yes I installed all the drivers that came on the mobo CD, but maybe I should look for more online. I don't have the original CD for this card as it was purchased second hand. I would assume the Nvidia site would be sufficient but I guess not. As far as DirectX is involved...you gave me an idea. I installed FEAR first and it came with directX, and when installing quake I opted to skip installing directX. Maybe I should try re-installing quake after I install some of these drivers. Thanks for trying to help sparky!

edit-
All problems resolved...followed the removal process in this guide:

Sorry for being stupid
