I have a brand new Western Digital that refuses to have any Version of XP load onto it. 2000 works fine, but it is important that XP pro be on this system.

I've tried with XP boot disks, upgrading, NTFS (quick and full format, FAT 32 (quick and full format), battled with NTLDR, and now am trying to use the Western Digital as a slave for a 2 gig that Kayin calls "The Death Star."

The Death Star has had XP on it numerous times, but now that the taint of the Western Digital has tainted it, The Death Star won't load XP Pro either. I've detatched the Western Digital from the setup and am trying to install XP again. It has 10 minutes left, and I sure that it will crash again.

Any sugestions if this OS load doesn't work.

What exactly is the problem when the WD is the only drive in your system, and you try to format/install xp?

It sucks, and it won't load. We finally got it to work. Took off the WD, finished the install, and then put it back on. It refused to load an OS.

That's odd Kayin. If you'll remember I have a WD that did the same thing. Turned out I had to disable the UDMA on my mobo to get it to install. Then re-enable it. works fine.

UPDATE: IT WAS NOT THE DRIVE. IT WAS ME. Well in part...

I had a fever the other day, but I had thought that I was getting better. In fact, I thought that I had recovered. I was fooling myself.

The entire problem was the power supply. As soon as the system refused to load with two drives on the system, I should have realised that it was a power related problem.

If I had just cooled my jets and waited untill my cold, or whatever this funk I have was gone, I would have realised the true nature of the problem before going though all that hell.

There were many quirks that pointed to the power supply as the culprit. I've just been so fixated on finishing this computer so that my obligations to "the word before college", that I haven't really been taking care of myself.

Starting tonight, I'm chilling out, sleeping more, and in general, getting back to good. Now that I've gotten my perspective back, and it's all gona be alright...

P.S. Thanks for putting up with me for the last few days. In a week or so, after I'm good and chilled, I'll be worth having around for modding. We'll start on that FFXI rig, and I'll use the palm frond as a hat. Yo!
