![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Bad RAM can cause bad downloads. If you're overclocking, go back to normal settings and try downloading again. If you're not overclocking, try Memtest to see if there are any errors. |

| Apex Tech Demi-God | Can you post some system specs? That will help us help you. Hibiki is right along the lines of what I was thinking. Also what type of internet connection do you have?

![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi hobnere! Let's see what we can do to help........ First off who's your isp? Second, How are you connected to the internet? Dialup, dsl, or broadband/cable? To answer your question about the usb drive and downloading from the internet. These are both entirely two different things. In most cases with the exception of dialup, in order to connect to another computer or the internet you need a NIC (network interface card) or a built in network port on the motherboard. Data is transferred to and from the nic card to either your router, hub, switch, modem, or a combination of them depending on your setup. It then transfers the data to another computer you specify by their ip address or web address, it retrieves the information and sends it back to you through the nic card. This is a very broad explanation but im trying to give you a little bit of a picture to go on. As for a usb drive.....data is transferred from the usb drive to the mainboard where its processed and sent where is needs to go. USB and a NIC card use different channels to transfer the data. So that's why in some cases one works and the other one has problems. From what im gathering from your post ....... Your problem seems to be network related issue. Let's see what.... we can try to narrow down what's the issue. First let's try this..... 1. click start and then run. 2. type cmd this opens a command prompt in dos. 3. type ipconfig /all Look for your ip address and write it down. 4. At the command prompt type ping -n 50 your ip address and hit enter. Example ping -n 50 192.168.0.104 and press enter. What were trying to do here is to ping your network card and see if there's any problems transferring data by pinging it. The 50 value in the ping parameters is going to send and receive 50 packets. After its done pinging take a look at the results. You should have 50 packets sent and 50 packets received. With a loss of 0 packets. I would try this several times because it may be intermittent and not show up everytime. If it works without a hitch with 0 packet loss. This tells me there's not a general problem with the network card. Now let's try pinging another computer on the internet. Follow step 4 from above but instead were going to ping an internet address. type ping -n 50 www.yahoo.com now try that a few times to see if there's any packet loss. If a problem does arise after this......chances are it could be your network cable, nic card, modem, or the isp itself. Before we start jumping the gun lets try this out and let us know what happens. I do hope this helps....... Rockin'male |

| Apex Techie Lite | Well here is a list of my system specs. Opteron 148 clocked at 2.9 with a zalman cnps 9500 cooling it DFI Lanparty NF4 Expert OCZ Gold 1g (bh-5) running at 230 2225 timings 7900GTX stock clocked 36g raptor for boot and 120g seagate fro storage i know that my network isn't my problem because i have road runner cable it's an 8mb connection. I have a dlink router that is about 5 feet away from my two computers and i can download just fine from my other computer but i'll try pinging it. EDIT: i am running 2227 on my memory just checked. | Mastah Overclocker | Save your current settings in the bios (YOU can keep up to 4 profiles with a DFI) Reset the Bios back to defaults, with the exception of the Ram voltage, set it for 2.8-3.0v and the NB set to 1.7v. Get OCCT, Prime 95 or any of the stabilty testing tools from the links below and see if your system passes http://forums.pcapex.com/other_oc_ha...ollection.html I would almost bet money that your system is not stable with your curent settings unless you are a very experienced overclocker. BH-5 based ram needs lots of volts to keep it happy, I have used up to 3.6v with 2-2-2-7 at 270FSB with a fan blowing directly on them to keep it cool...it's a neccesity! (I am using 2x256 KHX) But 3.2v should be plenty for the speeds and timings you have them set to now.

| Apex Techie Lite | Thx for advice but i am running 1.6v to the opty and 3.5 to my memory, my nb is at 1.7. I have it prime stable for 24 hours the only thing i can maybe think or is that it is getting to hot. From my bios it's reading about 44c on the opty and 42c on the nb. |

| Mastah Overclocker | Well..when you are dealing with an Overclocked sytem, you must rule that out first when troubleshooting..ya never know if it is causing issues or not until you go back to stock, you can end up chasing your tail forever. Eliminate any and all variable so that you never have to second guess it Again..reset ENTIRE Bios to defualts other than voltages and items you MUST change for it to bot properly...ther emihgt be some odd setting in there giving you fits. Have you ever saved profle in your Bios before? they are the cats ass, just give it a name like 2.9v OC or something, then save it...when you are sure that an OC wasn't causing the problem, reloading that profile is just a reboot and a few clicks of the keyboard away. I also create a "Safe" profile at the stock settings with the minor changes described above..once those tow things are set up, going back and forth is a breeze! If that does not help, I would start looking at a screwed up/missing driver, network settings, or anything that is flagged in your device manager. A stop at PCPITSTOP.com would not be a bad idea either, just create a username and log in, and run the "Full Tests" and possibly the other internet test (Download, upload, and ping) In fact..take a trip there first and do that..it has caught more problems for me than I can remember when troubleshooting odd issues.

| Apex Techie Lite | Well i just ran Pc pit stop and set everything back to defaults. I am still getting the same problem though i don't know if this is related but when i play world of warcraft i do sometimes lag out or get a fatal memory error and it crashes to my desktop. The only thing that pc pit stop showed was my hd was kinda fraged so i am defragging it now. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Memtest for a few passes to make sure, this happened to my brother a few months back. We replaced the RAM and the problem was gone. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Go with a brand name company for your replacement; Kingston, Crucial, Corsair, OCZ, and G.Skill are some that I can think of. G.Skill replaced my brother's RAM for free after it crapped out, and other members have had experiences with other companies' customer support policies. They might come around and share their info. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Wow, you're right! I bought my DDR G.Skill kit from Newegg last year and now they're mostly DDR2 stuff. Sorry, but you could still go for some OCZ but they're all so expensive. At this point I'd get some cheap RAM and start saving for the move up to DDR2 and either AM2 or Core 2 Duo. |
