Default Task Manager is gone.

So for some reason, not sure why, probly something I messed up or just happened when I was fiddling with some network thingy's.

But not my ctrl+alt+del, which I used to use to revert back to the task manager looks like its from windows 2000 :/

You know, gives me six options on a little window, Lock Computer, Task Manager, Log Off, Cancel, Shutdown, and Change Password.

And when I click Task Manager, it doesnt come up!

edit/ The old look issue is gone, but still, my task manager is no where to be found.

While I can't tell you exactly how to fix it, I had the same issue with Windows and Microsoft sent me to "Tinyurl" to download a task manager fix or patch. Hope this helps, but as I stated, it has happened to one of my machines twice and Microsoft knew how to fix it the second I told them waht the problem was. Sounds like a common issue from their response.

Thank you kiilert, you just might have redeemed yourself from past things.

My Task Manager still remains a mystery though.

Have you tried running it from the startmenu or from its directory?

Start > Run > taskmrg

Can also be located in the Windows > System32 directory under the same name "taskmgr"

this happened to me once or twice, bolth times it was a virus or some kind of spyware, try a system restore to a time you used to be able to use task manager it worked for me.

To troubleshoot, have you tried running the task manager directly? Run it manually: taskmgr

If it doesn't run, do you get an hourglass cursor until you click on something else, or does nothing happen at all? If nothing at all happens, it is is possible you have a ALCRA.B Worm (http://securityresponse.symantec.com...2.alcra.b.html). It has been known to disable programs on a Windows system such as the Task Manager.

  • %System%\taskkill.com
  • %System%\tasklist.com
  • %System%\tracert.com

If you get an hourglass cursor, you might have a difference problem related to user permissions on your PC or corrupted files.

also try right clicking the taskbar, and clicking task manager, if this does not work try the idea cipher nemo has that could be your issue, have you scanned for malware or spyware recently, maybe even a virus.
