![]() | I tried searching the forums and google but have not been able to find anything usefull. I am trying to use a usb flash drive to install my RAID drivers during a fresh windows install. Currently i have to plug a floppy drive in and unplug it everytime i format my computer. I tried using nlite to integrate the drivers into my xp cd but for some reason i could not get that to work correctly. Has anyone else tried to do this before? anybody have any tips? |

| P'Hoe'toshop Fanatic | Though I've never tried it myself... I've heard that you can rename the drive letter of your flash drive to A:/ and then it will be recognized as a floppy disk. Someone else will have to confirm that for me tho. |

![]() | i thought of that and figured it would only work once you were actually in windows. im trying to use it at the "press f6 to install 3rd party raid drivers" part right after booting to the windows cd |

![]() | WindowsXP and all previous versions only support loading drivers of any kind during installation from a floppy disk (RAID controller, SATA controller, SCSI controller). Windows Vista is supposed to support flash drives though. |

yup... he nailed it... floppy support only... Or the other option is to slipstream the drivers onto the windows cd.. http://forums.pcapex.com/anything_go...ing_guide.html

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am not positive as I have not tried it (no need for RAID curently), but the BIOS for my Asus M2N32-SLi Deluxe has an option to choose a removable device for booting from. If that was set to be the first option it MAY work, but only on that particular board (or perhaps any other that has the option to boot from a removable device). Like I said though, I have never tried it, nor have I read anywhere where someone had tried it.... but you can be first if your BIOS has the option. |
