Hello All,

Been a while since my last post, and a lot has happened since my last. has anyone played with Intel® Itanium® 2 processors based workstations or servers? I work in the computer recycling field and several of these systems are going to be scrapped but I wanted to try and get an OS on one of these othere than LINUX. nothing wrong with linux but windows is a bit eaiser to playwith. I have tried windows 2003 enterprise for Itantium but it halts at the "press any key to boot from CD" if any one has ever played with one of these or had acces to an Itanium 2 based system, how did you get OS on it and was it LINUX only?

Right now I am using SUSE SLE9 and I am not a big fan of linux but it is a bit more stable than MS.

Please help...

thanks all,

Robert.

Robert.

Robert, if the system is hanging at a "press any key to boot from CD" message, you're still at the BIOS and not yet botting to the O/S. At this point, does the CD access light come on at all to read your Windows 2003 Server CD at all?

It is quite possible that this system has HDDs that are using non-NTFS partitions for a *nix O/S. All newer versions of retail Windows CDs have the ability to partition drives. However, try booting to a partition utility (ie: a MS-DOS boot disk or a Linux-based bootable CD with partitioning tools) to troubleshoot.
