Default Bastard Dr. Watson

This stupid Dr Watson program is from windows and is supposedly some kind of error reporting tool. Problem is, when I'm not having any problems it starts communicating with Microsoft (or trying to, Sygate firewall has been set to block it). Is there any way to get rid of it? I tried myself already, by manually deleting the executable, but it just reappears later.

Which version of Windows is on the particular rig you are referring to? I would assume XP but you never know.

Edit: For Windows XP you can try this:

Disable Memory Dump File and Dr.Watson

1. Control Panel > System
2. Click on the Advanced tab
3. Settings button on the Startup and Recovery pane
4. Set the drop-down menu under Write debugging information to (none)

Similarly, the debugging program Dr. Watson saves information when applications crash. To disable it:

1. Go to HKEY_local_machine\software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion \ AeDebug and set the Auto string to 0.
2. Then use Windows Explorer to go to Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\ DrWatson .
3. Delete User.dmp and Drwtsn32.log, the insecure logs the program creates.

Very good GF, another option straight from MS is as follows:

1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug
NOTE: Steps three and four are optional, but they necessary if you want to restore the default use of Dr. Watson.
3.Click the AeDebug key, and then click Export Registry File on the Registry menu.
4.Enter a name and location for the saved registry file, and then click Save.
5.Delete the AeDebug key.

Problem I have had with the DR. is it takes to much resources and locks up.
