Default Limited or no connectivity

My R2D2 and the Matrix are connected via CAT5 to my router which is connected to my cable modem. I have a Linksys NH1005, 5 port network hub. The Matrix works perfectly, but not R2. I get this pic:

It shows me being connected at 100Mbps, but there is no connection. This problem has been going on for some months now and I've only ignored it till now because I have other computers with internet. I hear it's because of service pack 2, but I'm not gonna go back to SP1. Any idea how to fix this?

I get something similar when I try and use an add on network card on my LP NF3-250.
(Odd how this is the only LP from DFI with a SINGLE Network connection, not very LP freindly now is it? lol)

If I use the onboard network card for the incoming connection, and the add in card to serve my other PC's, it works fine. (I use a network hub, not a router)

Usually means your connected to your network but cant get online.
It may be the firewall blocking it.
Go to your Windows firewall and turn it off and see if you can get online, also may go into the advanced tab and uncheck the connection.

Go to the connection properties and make sure internet connection sharing is turned on.

ok this is a problem with some linksys products you just need to turn off the limited or no connectivity

ok Control panel ----> Network Connections -------> (right click) Local Area Connection ------> Prperties ------> at the bottom of this dialog box there is two check boxs uncheck the Limited or no connectivity box

now when i called linksys with thistype of problemafter doing this it just didn't work at all after, now re run the "Set up a home or small office network"

And if that doesn't work comeon back
I troublshooted tooo many SP2 machines

I'll try that. Do you think the Windows XP disk's REPAIR function can solve it?

The repair function renews your IP and checks for connectivity, it really doesnt repair much but its good for seeing if you are actually connected after you unceck that box.

After you do that and even try the repair and are still not conected, let me know I'm surprised I know so much actually never really thought of it (I took care of a school with like 100 PC at a time, for like 4 years) and i didnt relly think anything of it, just figured I'd help out, Plus itbeat the teaching of the new students in our class. After thethird year i pretty much became a tech guy, and played Video games most of the year, I really did learn something in school i guess, Wow i actually feel half smart.

Im not trying to brag, i really am amazed on how i know this and didnt relize it, thank you thegreatsatan you woke up the IT guy in me!

For me the solution has always been to turn ICS on.

Internet connection sharing, But z0mbi3 ICS is normally for servers, and or persons that use one computer for there modem (usually a USB modem) and route it out to a router, and hub/switch.

Now satan you didn't say if you got it to work or not?

10 will get you 20 says he has a 169 IP....

Click Start --> Run

type cmd

Click OK

type IPCONFIG

note IP address...

If it is a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx, then you have a MS issued private IP. This is typical when you're not getting outside connectivity. Might want to assign a static IP through Network Connections, TCP/IP, Properties. Also, try to ping your gateway (normal gateway is 192.168.0.1.. may be different in some cases). Next you'll want to try to ping an outside addy. Always start by pinging an outside IP addy. If you can establish a ping to an outside IP, then try to ping an outside DNS addy (i.e. www.cisco.com). If you can ping the IP but not the DNS, then you're having dns issues. Going through this series of tests and batteries can help to narrow down any connection issues you may be having.

Well I'm on the net via my adsl router / modem. When I let xp change my settings i always get limited or no connectivity and I alaways used to spend hours trying to remember how I fixed it before.

Answer is always to enable ICS for me, but then it could just be my setup.

Check your settings, ICS should be under the connection properties for your ethernet, just try checking it / unchecking it. It might not do anything, but it won't hurt.

if you can open the connections properties and it has an ip address in there, there is a very good chance that you have accidentally used a manually configured connection, and the ranges of address information are outside the limits of the connection...

if you set everything to be assigned automatically (by the routers built in DHCP server), and you STILL get this error, then administrate your router and make sure DHCP is enabled, and if you are "sure" you are connected despite having that error, then you will know for sure if you see your computer name and IP address in the DHCP Client List...

if nothing else works, i would then try a different CAT5 cable, or try a different port on the router...
