Computer won't logon!

Ok so a mate of mine can't get his computer to start properly, It gets all the way to the logon screen but as soon as he trys to logon the entire computer resets.

Its been in the sun but i' don't think heat is the problem as it gets all the way to the logon process.

I've already tried safemode and get the same problem, does anyone have any ideas?

I've seen a few things cause that... usually it's a bad hard drive. See if you can boot it in command-prompt-only and run a "chkdsk /f". You just never know... just start eliminating possibilities.

FunnyStickman is on the right track. The hard drive could be your problem and if it was in the heat, that could have effected some hardware. I used to have this 6 channel soundcard that was bad and caused my system to never shut down. Check it out though.

I've asked all the people in my networking class and we've come to the conclusion that it might be a corupt operating system. so mabee if you get the data of the hard disk and re-install windows that might save anyway mucking about. If it does even though you've re-installed windows i'd say it would have to be a hardware problem.

Unluckily for him I don't have any way of getting all his data of the hard disk as i only have a few laptops and no disk caddys, he'll just have to deal with some data loss, its his own fault for not backing up reguarly. I'll do a re-install tomorrow.

I am going to have to agree with everyone else, it sounds like you might have to reformat and restore the OS to fix the problem..
