Default Pagefile question?

Just a quick question, if I turn the windows page file off will it force windows to load all that crap into the ram or not?
Should i increase the pagefile to its maximum or minimum or turn it off?

Leave it on automatic, some programs will refuse to work without a page file.

automatic is good.. but cane be a nightmare... if for some reason you get a bad sector on the hdd and its in the part where the page file resides... it can cause a assload of issues... and its hard to track down..

what i would recommend... make the page file 2.5x times bigger then the amount of memory... and make the min size and max size the same...

and if available, locate your pagefile on a separate physical drive from the one on which you installed Windows.

IE: Windows is installed on drive c:\ and you have another physical drive called d:\. Clear the pagefile from c:\ and place it all (2.5x physical memory) on drive d:\

ONLY do this if another PHYSICAL drive is available, not just another partition.

Google for more detailed directions for Pagefile Optimization.

Thats a mighy good idea but unfortunatley I only have 1 drive and a couple of external hard disks so the USB bandwidth would be a major limiting factor.

Cheers for the info though!

I use Tweak XP Pro to "tweak" my "system cache"... If you have 1GB or more of memory it really
pays off to have a program like this "auto load" certain key parts of Windows XP into the ram.....
can't really determine what it does..(which parts it loads into the memory)... and...it takes up a bit of time when loading Windows, of course, but when you multitask a lot, it really pays off, imho.... in my case it sure works out well!

Since this is a commercial program... you need to ask yourself if you'd rather buy this or put your
"pagefile" on some super speedy "Raptor".... it doesn't need to be big... just fast....
