Default Fetching Win2000 SP4...

Okay. Basically, I need the SP4 file since 1) it's probably good practice and b) I apparently need it for the drivers if I want an X1000 series graphics card (quite possible). I'm planning a new install soon, and would like to slipstream SP4 onto the disc, so I'll want the network install version, 130 whopping mb.

However, I'm on 56k, on a connection which regularly must be dropped and reconnected so someone else can enjoy it.

Fair enough. I'll go with a download manager.

I got a programme called "GotIt". The first time I fed it the URL http://download.microsoft.com/downlo.../w2ksp4_en.exe
it started fine. When I paused and went to resume it, it started bellowing "403 forbidden" errors while trying to resume. Attempts to start the transfer anew inside it also say '403 forbidden' now.

When I load the URL in Firefox, it starts a download. I let it fetch about 11Mb and then paused and disconnected. I reconnected, pressed 'resume', and it decided it was done with the download. Not acceptable, as the file's quite a bit longer than that, no?

I figure it will be an 8-10 hour download to completion, and I rarely if ever have 8-10 hours nonstop where I can tend the machine and make sure nobody knocks the connection off or turns the machine off. Alternatives?

Does their server just throw a hissy at people trying to resume downloads? If so, is there a more lenient mirror available?

If all else fails you could use one of those services that Burn files of your choice to a cd .
For a fee of course ,Usually $9.99 per cd.

Or since its a LEGAL copy ,you could try a bit torrent.
That way you can start and stop the download at will.

Try using opera web browser, it has a built in download manager and will let you start and stop downloads at will!
