Default Can't access my "My Documents" Folder after rebuild???

Alright, here's the long and short of it . . .

I had my "My Documents" folder mapped to another physical drive. (d:\Bertha) I formatted my C:\ drive and reinstalled windows and now, due to placing passwords on my "My Documents" folder, I'm unable to get to the files I kept there.

Is there a way to access these files? I have the password, so that's not the problem. I just can't get windows to request that password.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried remapping the My Documents folder to the same place again with the same password?

I think so . . .

I created a user with the same original name and mapped the "My Documents" folder for the username to the same folder and it still would not ask for a password.

My Outlook.pst file is in that folder, so this is rather important to me.

Can you see it and just not access it, or is it invisible?

Dont think there is any way, cause I've done that before and I haven't ever figured out how to access my old documents folder.

Would a Live Linux boot disc work?

Thats my usual solution to data recovery... DSL (Damn Small Linux) is around a 40/50Mb download and is great for that purpose.

In control panel there is an icon called folder options. Open that and go to the view tab, at the bottom there is an option that says use simple file shareing. Uncheck that box and then go to the folder in question and right click on it. Go to shareing and security and try to take ownership of the folder.

Hey bruizer, once you get up and sober up, i would suggest mapping to you old My Doc's folder, right click on your My Doc's folder go properties, and change your current mapping from "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents" to where ever your old My Doc's folder was or is i am guessing its going to be "D:\My Documents\" if its just the PST that you need to get into them map to them with Outlook!

thank you everyone for your advice. I have "sobered" up and somehow my lucidity is not aiding in my ability to access this folder.
(BOY was I wasted with that "echoes" post)

I'm going to retry everything mentioned with the hopes that can get to the folder.

If I'm unable to get to the elusive "My Documents" folder . . . it's all good. I was able to access the login information that was in the aforementioned .pst file.

Fortunately, that's the only "secure" information I warehouse in my .pst's

Alright, so I'm not 100% sober, but hey . .. I'm not driving. (unless surfing . . . . ahhhh fuhged abou' did..

CHEERS!!
