I'm overlooking the fact that this thread is old because of the recent and relevant response on it.
No "Check the damn date n00b!1one" posts people...

LaVinda: One of the following is causing the issue:
1.) The CD is scratched/damaged. (Most Likely)
2.) The CD drive, try another one. (Somewhat Likely)
3.) The RAM is faulty or running beyond spec. (Least Likely)

Thumbs up Corrupted dmio.sys or cant copy User.exe (win98)

Hi People,
The error message is definatly a hardware problem, which hardware the RAM...The best solution is to off your pc,change your RAM,remmember to spray abit of contect cleaner on it and the slot before putting it in,always helps.

Let me know if i could help you with any other problems.

cheers!!

Considering this thread is almost a year old, I don't think they're going to need help anymore.

even though this is a year old... but what kinda crack are you smoking? contact cleaner? yes please rub your memory so that nice static eletricty will kill it if the chemicals dont....

any how ... that is more then likley not the issue... the dmio.sys driver is used when windows creates volume devices as necessary, for example when you create a partition on a new disk ... so i would put my money on a hdd issue....

Yes, contact cleaner would not be my first choice when it comes to cleaning computer hardware. Thats just playing with fire.

In my experience, ram has allways been the culprit when I have recieved the dmio.sys error during an XP install. It was usually because I was running it WAAAYYY out of spec. Setting it back to stock speed & timings would fix the problem every time.

There was one time I recieved that error because of a memory compatibility issue...I fixed that by getting some new ram.

Default is it a hdd probelm?

I am running PIII 500 on 80 GB hard drive with win xp Prof spII. One fine day, the computer gives the message during boot: windows could not start becasue the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\drivers\ntfs.sys
I attempt to repair the file using win xp setup.
However during the boot from cd, the follwing message comes up:
dmio.sys is corrupt.
This doesnt go away with changing of cds, or whatever.
What do I do?
thanks.
