Question Ummm....

Im by no means the expert here but let me take first crack and see who backs me up ....

Motherboards have drivers for chipsets and stuff. Did you get them installed? Did you install 98 drivers or XP drivers? I mean - would a mobo that new even HAVE 98 drivers?

More than likely he has an upgrade version of XP instead of the full install version aka standalone.

I'm thinking that it's the Windows 98 install to the type of hardware he has................Windows 98 just can't handle the new hardware.........especially 1 gb of memory.........

not true actually you can do a full install off of a upgrade disk.

put the disk in the drive and boot from the cd rom, follow along and when it asks place your windows 98 disk in the drive(it's verifying that you have a full version of win) from there it should go like a normal install and activate.

sorry for the poor typing with a broken right arm(right handed)
