p2 300 mhz 96 mb ram. What OS?

Came into possesion of a compaq armada 7400 as of about 5 mins ago.

I'm gonna use it to relive retro days with my mate, get some old school duke and quake multiplayer havoc going.

When its not doing this tho its going to be my mother's office machine.

So what OS should I put on it? First thoughts is win98se. I know win2k will be stretching it a little but the comp still exceeds the minimum requirements for it.

I was also wanting to use it to have a kick around on a lniux distro, but I'm quite limited on the dual boot front as the laptop only carries a 6 gig hdd.

So what do you reckon?

98SE is your best bet. I think it's the most stable of the 9X OS's. You could install XP on it. I had XP installed on a 200Mhz Pentium w/ 96MB, but it took 8 hours to install and probably 20 minutes to boot up.

XP ran fine on a 466Mhz Celeron with 128MB though.

Once I've got all the windows stuff I need on there I'll see how much I've got to play with for a linux install.
