Default not all memory showing in xp but in bios and linx its all there

grrr.... windows xp is bothering me.... i noticed today that my computer has been running slow as s***

i check the system properties ... and it says i have 2 gb of memory.... normaly it says i have 4 gb ....

bios says i have 8 gb.... suse 9.2 says i have 8 gb.... wtf.... any suggestions?

Try re-seating the memory and see what happens. If you are still getting errors, try one stick and see what happens, then the other stick.

Have you downloaded any MS patches lately? That could account for it, too. As far as the BIOS reading 8G...well, you've got me there. What board are you using?

i am using a tyan s2885 motherboard...

i can try to reseat the memory.... but why would linux see all the memory?

4 gb per processor, hes got a dual proc board but you can have up to 16gb all together

yes in windows all i can see is 4gb.... but right now i am only seeing 2 gb...


only 64bit oses can see up to 64 gb memory

wow... i got some time to go reaserch my prob.... here was the soultion

i had to change by boot.ini to

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /maxmem /PAE

and then i had to change a memory hole so not so much memory was being used by pci devices...


wow i got off my lazy ass and did somthing... im so proud of my self
