Default 64bit, wheres my ram?

So Ive got 2 256mb sticks of geil ram, and I put them into my micro atx board and beeps follow. I managed to get the thing to install xp pro (horribly) but when I look at my computer it shows only 256mb of ram. I dont know if any of this has to do with the motherboard being 64 bit but I dont know what else would cause it. If one of the sticks was bad wouldnt the motherboard let me know instead of letting it slide? Gah I dont know what to do.

XP Pro 64 is wacky, but has no bearing on this problem. First, no, as long as one of the sticks is good your mobo more than likely won't say a thing.

Try reseating your RAM to ensure that it just didn't work itself loose (not likely but possible)
Also, try taking one stick out and boot up... check to see that each stick works individually. If they both work, then you may have a bad RAM slot.

I figured it out, poor design of the motherboard. I had to put my hand on the otherside of the mobo and push on the ram as hard as I could to get it to seat correctly. The stick was in but windows didnt recognize it but it actually went past post. Very odd.
