| I seam to have a semifunctional command prompt. Though some things I type work (gpedit, msconfig ect others do not (netstat -a). I reinstalled the Os via (upgrade installation) though problem still remains. I have Black Ice application Protection though i do not think that it is the issue considering I had temporarily disabled it. Could this possibly be a service problem, registry issue?? Any assistance would be appreciated. | ||

| Yes I did. Found no ways around the issue. I have been using some third party software for my netstat viewing temporarily but I would like this issue resolved.

| At one point in time i had sp2 on here but removed it. It would take me about a month or so to reformat. I have so many esential programs to install it is to much of a bother. Though I am sure that would fix the issue I would rather learn how to repair it the go around it. I have literally hundreds of programs installed. It takes hours just to organise My start menus. For instance I probably have more programs in My Audio/Video link than most have on there computers periode. Oddly enough the insomniac that I am really do use the vast majority of my program. With the help of Msconfig, Registry tweaks, Highjack this, Spybot, itty bitty Process manager, and some other utilities I still have a really fast boot up. (Bet your all like yeah right) Any other ideas?

| A good thing to try is to put in your windows xp disc and boot it up when you get to the instal options you should be able to hit r instead of installing windows xp and xp itself should go through a repair phase where it replaces all of the esential windows files with fresh copies if that dosnt work look for the file command.com on the windows cd and try to replace it manually it should be in the windows/system32 folder ![]() | ||

| I have allready Tried the repair to no avail. Interestingly enough it did nothing. Command.com was not found. CMD is however. By running it without the shortcut it ran with no change to its present status. Could not locate niether CMD nor command.com on XP disk.

| The only other thing i can think of besides doing a fresh install would be to check the memory settings on the command.com in your windows/system32 folder. They should be something like follows. (Conventional Memory) -Total-Auto -Initial environment-Auto Protected should be unchecked. (Expanded (EMS)Memory) -total-NONE (Extended(XMS)Memory)-total-0 Uses HMA should be checked (MS-DOS Protected-mode (DPMI) memory)-total-Auto You can access these settings buy right clicking command.com and click properties and then go to the memory tab. ON THE SCREEN TAB (Preformance) check fast ROM emulation and Dynamic memory allocation. Beyond this its going to be a real pain to trouble shoot oo and i found the CLI on the windows cd for you to try and replace. When you put the cd in if you go into the I386 folder look for CMD.ex_ take that and copy it to your C:\windows\system32 folder then before you change the name rename cmd.exe to something like cmd.exebak so you dont overwrite it. then rename cmd.ex_ to cmd.exe and type cmd in the run prompt you might have to try it a few times before it responds. Hope this helps | ||
