Boot Loading Problem

I have a tad problem. Somehow or another something happened to my bott loader. If i unplug my ide drive i cant boot, even though my windows installation is on my sata drive. This really makes things bad since i wanna install linux on the ide drive but i fear if i format the drive and install linux i wont be able to boot to my sata xp installation. Can anybody give me any insight?

Try resetting your mbr to the default template or use a boot loader like OSL2000

Do you have your ide drive as a boot device before your sata drive?

dosen't sound like much of a problem to me.looks as if windows installed the bootloader to the mbr on the ide drive is all.so if it isn't present (unplugged) ,there is nothing on the sata drive to show windows as being bootable.
just install linux on the ide drive and during the install tell it to put the bootloader on mbr /dev/hda-which should be the master primary ide channel.worst case scenario is you would have to manually add the entry for windows to lilo or grub depending on your bootloader choice and/or distro.

if you don't want to run linux, just install windows with no other hard drive plugged in.
