Default Large folders gone or non-functioning (Win XP)

The last few days i've had a couple problems with two seperate hard drives. On one i had about 20 miscellaneous folders simply disappear, everything else in the same directory remained, and if i go straight to the sub-directory of one of the invisible folders it's still there, but it won't show up in any explorer. I haven't changed any settings, so the folders are not set to invisible, they just randomly stopped showing up.

Since then i've clean installed windows, and suddenly on a seperate hard drive i have a large music folder with sub directories (15gb total) which when i tried accessing it today told me that the drive was not formatted. However, everything else on that partition of the drive is working, and only the two directories (along with their sub directories) within the music folder are not working. The other partition on the drive is fine. Also i did defrag the partition with the music files and the log showed that it had trouble moving a few of the music directories within it, but eveything else worked fine, and when i look at the folder properties it tells me nothing is there. It's as if everything in this folder is on some unformatted partition.

I'm confused as to what is going on with each hard drive. While the 1st i may attribute to wear and tear, it's a couple years old and seemed to respond very well to a defrag, the other is brand new, and everything has worked flawlessly outside of my music directory. Any help would be much appreciated.

Default Maybe corruption mate!

Try error checking the drive it maye require a restart though

And if your lucky you will recover it all

Back up what you can in mean time!

You could try third party drive recovery software, they work pretty sweet.

Hope this helps

The other day my server did a CHKDSK on its own at bootup and hosed 200gb worth of data.......ouch. I basically had to completely remove the partition and then re-create it because the MBR was hosed.
