Default NTLDR not found (when 2nd HDD installed)???

I decided to rebuild my HTPC and add a 2nd HDD (on the same IDE cable as the DVD RW), but when i added it, the Plextor DVD burner was only recognised as a CDRW?? Also originally it would not boot and would always give the message that "NTLDR cannot be found, it CNTRL-ALT-DEL to restart"

But i got past this after changing the Jumper settings on the PATA HDD. The HDD that has the OS is a SATA HDD and i think that the Bios is looking at the PATA drive for the OS.

How can i correct this? (I already changed the BIos to list the SATAT drive first then the PATA drive 2nd??? And i have given the PATA HDD its own IDE cable too???

Help!

Thanks

There you go. All the NTLDR info you need.

thanks for the link, however this NTLDR only comes up when the 2nd HDD is included.

Otherwise it boots perfectly. Note: the PATA HDD is my backup so i need to get all my info off it!

The problem is not really the NTLDR but how do i instruct the Bios to read the OS from the SATA HDD and not look to the PATA HDD for it????

if it was trying to boot to the PATA hdd, the one with no OS on it. it would say No operating system found. however since the NTLDR error comes up. that thread is still relavent.

What are the specs on your MOBO? I've run into this before, it's you boot order settings that need to be tweaked.

I already have set the Boot sequence in the Bios to SATA then PATA.

However, there was a setting that i played with that said to look for both SATA and PATA drives, I activated this cause i thought it wouldnt recognise the PATA drive with out it?

Ok, go to your boot menu in your BIOS, and make sure that your SATA drive is listed before your PATA drive. Most MODO's still list their PATA drives first by default.

Oops, lil late on this one...

It shouldn't. On that PATA drive, was there an OS on it before you had put it on your system or has it always been a "storage" drive?

If I can clarify somthing related? My moms work PC went down with the same "NTLDR is missing" . But it had nothing to do with installing a 2nd hard drive, or a new hard drive.

The problem was a floppy disk or a zip drive disk (ie removable media) left in a drive that was bootable. REMOVE ALL YOUR MEDIA FROM BOOTABLE DRIVES!

on the asus boards you need to make sure that you have not only the proper boot order assigned but the drive themselves in the proper order. there is 2 menus you need to look at here, the first one you have to make the SATA drive the primary drive then in the other menu you need to list the order of the drive. sonce i no longer have my asus board here i can not help you with what menus they are...

I have set those to setings in the BIOS, but i found that the boot sequence would often revert back to Default!
Even though i was F10 to save and exit.

Something you might want to try is to disable the pata drive as a boot drive considering when you boot a drive its in the purpose of booting an os off of that drive. once you do that your bios shouldnt even look to the pata drive for an os to load to memory.

Try setting everything up and saving w/out using f10. Do it through the menu. Every Asus board Ive ever owned would revert to the previous settings If I didnt do it that way.

I would suggest putting the PATA drive on a seperate cable anyway cause its gonna slow down running with the DVD-RW drive. I would also just take the PATA totally out of the boot sequence not just behind the SATA.
