Default Breaking into My Doc's

Ok so I have an interesting problem here. I have a WD Raptor that was from my previous rig. Now it still has a copy of XP on it and everything. Now I want to get into my files that are on that hard drive. So I hooked the HDD up to an external enclousre and was able to view my files. With a little bit of minor work I was able to view the files in My Documents (I had to add my user profile under the security tab, with full access in order to view these files). That is all I can do, I try to access these files but it returns me an access denied error.

Any ideas are welcomed as why I posted this. I would love to get an answer sometime this afternoon as I'm planing on putting linux on this HDD.

P.S.

If you say why not just boot from the HDD and just login I cant. I'm running on an Intel setup and the HDD was configured with an AMD setup, so It would work if I wanted it too.

Do you still have the AMD rig? if so you can remove the regestry for hardware and boot straight in on the Intel rig.

Give booting off it a try. I was amazed when I moved a HDD from my daughters AMD rig to a P4 rig and it booted into Windows just fine. I still have no idea why.

Boot into safe mode as admin, then go into that securities tab and claiim the files. After that, copy them to another drive or a key drive or something (cant do cd in safe mode, nodrivers)

Hope that helps

Default If its XP you can do the following

If you goto explorer (my computer) - tools - options - advanced, then remove the enable simple file permissions option at the bottom

This will give you advanced file permissions on the directory. replace the permissions with access for you

Hope this helps guys
