| Just before I moved to TN I had Vash hooked up to my TV with a S-Video and audio cable. Two days before moving I was watching Cowboy Bebop and the audio was fine, that night I shut it down. After moving and hooking everything up correctly there is no sound!!!! So I check if my onboard sound was enabled. That was fine. Then checked the audio drivers in windows...it showed up as working also. I took out my Abit CD and re-installed the audio drivers anyway just to check. Still didn't work and I tried to install audio drivers again. Thinking that maybe my front audio connection was loose from moving I took off the side panel to check, but they were secure. I had an mp3 playing while I worked and had the volume at MAX. The back audio port emits a buzzing sound while the front audio gives me nothing. As a last ditch effort I took out a Knoppix CD and booted into Linux. Played an MP3 and nearly had my ears blasted off! Both front and back ports worked. So this is definately a windows issue. I'm wondering if anyone can help me without having to format and re-install windows again. System Specs- Windows XP Pro Abit NF7-S Rev2.0 AMD 2600+ Mobile ATI 9800 Pro 1Gb Corsair | ||

| Why any of this would have changed since you shut it down is beyond me, but just some troubleshooting thoughts... did you check the advanced audio properties to verify that the audio isn't muted on wave or aux in or wherever you were watching bebop through. perhaps try installing the nforce drivers (you have Nvidia chip on your board yes?) and running the audio setup wizard there. did the speaker output type change? | ||

| Yep advance audio props were the first thing checked. Output was also same. Did the nForce soundstorm audio setup also. Oh and I used both Windows Media player & Winamp to see if maybe it was just the fault of the program. Even tried Core Media player which is the same thing I used to play those Cowboy Bebop episodes. Sorry for the size...but this is to show everything is working like its supposed to...just no sound. ![]() Last edited by JessAlba452; 15-April-05 at 04:37 PM.. | ||

| Yikes tough one... I've had occasional issues like that, only to find that windows for reasons unknown to me occasionally mutes its mixer settings. Apparently not this time... Do you have any spare soundcards around, any kind just as long as it works? Testing a separate soundcard could help isolate where the problem is. If the problem is in the Windows Sound System itself, another card wouldn't work either. Also... you probably did this, but when reinstalling drivers sometimes it works best to remove them instead of reinstalling them over existing ones. Remove the drivers from Windows and even hunt the bastards down and delete them from your hard drive, then try again. Sometimes Windows has a "memory" of certain drivers even when you "remove" them, so you have to be pretty brutal erasing for a reinstall sometimes or it will just use them the same way again, even if its the wrong way. | ||

It wouldn't be a nub answer if she didn't have soundstorm, which took over that portion of windows sound when it was installed. Anyway, it's probably hardware related. e.g. connections.

i gave up on the onbaord sound with my NF7-S, had the wierdest problems, just like yours also... But what really set me off, the rear channel needed to be pluged into the center and sub jack and vice versa...liek wtf!! Got myself a Soundblaster Value 5.1 (upgrade from my 4.1 ) Great card. Increases fps too. Cheap at $30 canadian.

| Your problem lies in the recent spat of solar flares wrecking havoc on the magnetic field that covers your new house. Isolate the solar magnectic flux and problem solved. Rob P.S. Sorry, I have no idea what it really could be other than maybe something reset itself during the move. What that could be....? | ||

| Im almost sure this is a driver problem with windows. If the hardware is fine, its software and since it is not a soundcard i think it has to be drivers. Worse come to worse, you reformat. Im considering doing that soon, but i dont have any problems that bug me as serious as this one. Other than that solution, im stumped. It could be what rob said ![]() | ||

| the answer seems obvious to me. 1)boot the knoppix disk 2)open a terminal window 3)"knoppix-installer" and hit enter a short time later all you windows issues will be solved or have you tried running an analog cable from the cdrom to the soundcard to double-check the analog output? | ||
