Default raid?????

ive got a wierd problem trying to install windows on a raid config. ill set up my raid array in the bios, then when i load windows, i load my raid drivers (press f6) and it will get to the point where it says setup is starting windows. this is before i can even select which drive to load it on. then it freezes---wont do anything. just says setup is starting windows and thats it. any ideas??? this is killing me. i want to use my raptors in raid 0 but i cant i guess.

couple of thoughts:

1. Even if you enable the RAID in the BIOS, there may be a jumper setting that needs to be looked at.
2. Flash to the latest BIOS
3. Use latest RAID drivers

For troubleshooting purposes, is it possible to have another HD already loaded with an OS boot to see if the array is good?

enabling raid might not be enough, you may have to use the actual raid utility to build the stripe / redundancy before windows will see it as a legitimate drive...you dont do that in the bios either...

i did all of that--native nvidia raid utility is what i used and it sees the array as healthy.
i got it to work finally---but i had to enable raid on all 4 sata connections for some odd reason, even tho im using it on just 2. now i have a problem with when my computer boots, it says cannot boot from disk. but if i have a windows xp disk in the drive, and when it says press any key to boot, if i dont press any key, it loads xp fine, ive already loaded every update, including service pack 2. but it still wont boot without a disk in the drive.-- hmm wont load os without a disk in the drive---what the hell?

wow. that's a new one to me...

I hate to make this suggestion, but prehaps boot from the XP cd, and do a reinstall of the OS.

And check the BIOS boot order.

You hit the last one right on the head.

Check the boot order in the BIOS.

ok--my board is a msi k8n neo2 platnium, and the drives are 36 gig raptors. i reinstalled the os twice to see if it would fix it--but it didnt. ive sent an email to msi, figured it has to be an issue with my raid drivers, bios, or a hardware issue. i have alot of experience with this stuff, and ive never seen a board this hard to set up a raid on. my crappy intel board i had before this was much easier to set up an array. for now i guess ill just leave a windows disk in the drive...........

Try moving your drives to the other 2 SATA headers.

How's your boot order defined in the BIOS?

Have you tried disconnecting all drives other then the RAID Array ?

And are you sure that the RAID Array was formated as a boot device ?

Other then this, the only thing I can think of is to swap out your SATA Cables if you have another set. I saw a post where a guy said the SATAcables supplied with the drive wouldn't work and he had to use the ones that came with his mobo.

you don't want your hard drive as the boot device, you want your scsi-whatever or 'other boot controller' device as first in the boot list.

I am trying to get to an on-line manual for your mobo but having no luck. Either the site is down or there is some other reason that it's timing out.
