Ok. My computer was messing up so I used a windows xp operating system cd to fix it. The only problem now is that when it fixed the problem..it left the old operating system on there. So how do I delete the other operating system?

well, if you want the old install to keep wasting space, you can go into the boot.ini file and delete the first string.

if not, then delete ALL the partitions, and reformat.

Toss in the Win XP cd and when your going thru the reinstall you need to delete the old partition and then continue with the install. This will give you a fresh XP install and your old stuff will be gone.

Backup your data it will leave with the old OS.

Yeah but the XP CD will do the same - just delete all the partitions before you continue with the install.

Did it put your new XP into a differently named folder or into the default Windows folder?
If it put it into a different folder than you can just (in my experience, please don't explode if you've had this go wrong on you) delete the old windows folder and corresponding Documents and Settings folders (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\OldUsername just make sure youve got any profile or other info outta there before you wipe it.) Then to make the listing stop showing up in your OS boot choice menu just right click My Computer-->Properties-->Advanced-->Startup and Recovery Settings-->Edit and you can remove the line directed at the previous windows install
mine shows
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINXP="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
so if I wanted to get rid of the old windows install listing I'd just whack the second listing as it goes to the /WINDOWS folder.

Yes it can leave behind Program Files and other errata, but thats not too hard to clean out is it? Not for a
