| PCApex's Mac Man | As you can no doubt tell, im sick of waiting a 1min or 2 to work on the computer when I start it up. I usually leave it run all day, and just turn it off at night to save on energy bills. Im running windows XP pro SP2 and maybe switching to Windows XP 64edition soon. What are some suggestions on how to get the computer booting faster?

![]() ![]() | Check for Spyware/Adware, clear your startup programs, defrag your HDD. If all else fails, reformat. Reformatting is like having a new computer. Nothing can help better.

| PCApex Review Editor | Here's a set of links that I've taken to using as a guide every time I reinstall windows which should help you out. They were written by Darksamurai in the spring of '03, but are still relevant as hell today. How to Tweak the EVER-LOVIN' CRAP out of Windows XP! (PART 1) How To Tweak The Crap Out Of Win XP: Part 2 Tweaking The Crap Out Of Xp: Part 3 How To Tweak The Crap Out Of Win Xp: Part 4 Tweaking the CRAP out of Windows XP Vol. 5! Took me about 45 minutes of digging to find those, but there they are. Hope they help. PS, Show Darksamurai some love for putting those posts together to help us pimp all the extra goodness that we can out of our Windoze xp systems!! |

![]() | And nothin' beats a fresh install streamlined and tweaked by nLite. You can change some settings in there for speed as well, just be careful what you remove, if anything from the install (can cause unexpected things to not run), and dont use the "quick shutdown" option that just kills your programs (you'll see what I mean if you load it up and look over the speed settings), it makes for a PITA to make sure everything is closed all the way to preserve their settings...plus it doesn't really make that much of a difference, maybe a second or two in the shutdown. Hope it helps! |
