![]() | I really need help here! My Windsows installation was preinstalled and the installation media on my harddrive. I have backed up the XP installation onto a DVD but because I cannot boot from te DVD I created I am unable to install from the DVD. I have treid booting my laptop using my Win98 CD and then running my DVD drive; this works but when I run the setup file it tells me it wont work in DOS. If I boot into XP (using a version I need for another machine) and run setup then Windows says that i need to goto ad remove programs - and then im installing of the already instaleld ersionof window and not teh OEM i need to use. I really do not know what to do now. I need my laptop for University monday. Please help! This is all because Dell didnt give me an installation CD for my OEM version of XP. How you supposed to reinstall windows when you cant even run the setup program. My only burning software is Nero 5.5 - is this any good for doing what i need to do? I burned my xp oem installation dvd using Sonic RecordNow! |

| Bi P-Hoe-lar | if you can get a copy of the XP OEM CD you can legally use it with your key, but you're not going to be able to make a bootable winXP installation CD off your current installation, as far as I know. Tell me, Home or Pro?

![]() | IÂ’ve been searching on the web for a solution to backup my boot partition C: to a bootable DVD (also works with CDs) so I can restore it quickly and easyly without diskettes. The best way I found was this one that IÂ’ve already tried in several computers and works really fine. To do this, you need Norton Ghost 2K3 and Nero Burning Rom. This a very shorty help, hopping you know how to work with these programs. Otherwise, itÂ’s a good time to learn ![]() Ok, letÂ’s start. First, create the disk image with Norton Ghost 2K3.
For this step, we use Nero Burning Rom. Choose Bootable DVD and select the boot image from a image file that I can send you if you want. To create this file, I used Ultraiso to convert a Ghost 2K3 boot disk to ima format that Nero uses. Moving on, on Nero project window, insert the Ghost image files and burn the DVD. Finally, letÂ’s test if you can boot from the DVD and you can read the image files recorded there. Be sure you set your computer bios to start form the CD device. When your computer starts, youÂ’ll get a virtual A: drive, wich is the DVD boot sector. There you can find the Ghost Restore Program that works in DOS mode. It will run automatically because itÂ’s called from autoexec.bat. Good luck. Paulo email: pauloverissimo@hotmail.com | ||||||
