| I had a few problems when doing the upgrade on customers PCs - mostly related to generic hardware. The worst one was after the upgrade the keyboard stopped working, that kinda dampers your PC useage.......removed SP2 and it started working again - must have been a driver issue. At this point Im not installing SP2 on any of my rigs - dont see the point as of now. I have other pograms that do the so called "security" features of SP2 and I like them better............it will have to wait for another day. | ||

| I've read too many "bug" reports related to SP2, when you have an OEM rig, the manufacturer can perform tests and release new drivers to make things work. On my desktop (which is custom, like nearly everyone else that reads this has) I don't have the time to troubleshoot problems caused by SP2, besides, I also have the full Norton suite, does the same thing (and IMHO better) as SP2 does. Also my laptop, as uber-cool as it is, reportedly doesn't like running XP Pro SP2 on it, but it likes XP Home with SP2 just fine. | ||

| Personally ive nothing but problems with SP2 as of lately. I rescently installed it and ill be damned if windows didnt find a driver for my vid card as soon as it booted up. Although this can be impressive but for those of us that use Coolbits it can be a pain in the ass due to the fact that Coolbits will not work with a Windows digitally signed driver. It got worse because when i did try to update my driver it would automatically grab that same driver again as soon as i would uninstall. Once i finally got it all taken care of and got the right driver, i rebooted to start overclocking and i got a damn message saying that due to the rescent changes my computer has experienced i will need to re-activate my windows....i dont think i need to explain what kind of a pain in the a$$ that is.....Death to SP2 IMO SP2 | ||

| Well, when I installed it on my laptop, pretty much everything went to crap. Stuff stopped working, unexpected Windows Explorer crashes (man, I hate those), and tons of other stuff. Now, when I put my new computer together two months ago with a fresh hard drive, I installed XP Home (OEM version), hooked in the broadband router, and went to the Windows Update site to update everything. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention and I installed SP2. After I finished with that, I went back to re-install all my other programs and it was then that I noticed that I had installed SP2. Since I just wasted all that time, I thought that I would wait until my next meltdown (hey, I accept the fact that it's going to happen again). Lo and behold, it's working pretty good. I can't even tell that I've got SP2 installed. For some reason (and I see this around the 'net everywhere), it's always good to do a fresh install and update to SP2 before installing any other programs. Now, I've just got to go back and do my laptop now... ![]() SP2 works for me. Wipe the drive clean, re-install your XP Home, upgrade to SP2, then load all the programs to see what happens. Rob | ||

What boot times? You can't fold very much if you're shutting your rig off. You are folding, right? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| If you're formatting there is no reason to not create a SP-slipstreamed disk and install Windows from that. Otherwise, stay away from Microsoft service packs, and updates, for that matter. I'm running all the latest updates including SP2, all of which installed slipstream-style with XP. XP is as fast as ever. | ||
