| Mastah Overclocker | If I am not mistaken..those old Windows 95 based programs were also pretty flakey. How about a bare bones Linux install? I think it would probaly be a bit more stable, without hogging anything up

Win 95 through Win ME were all based on the same OS kernal..they all sucked back then I had More BSOD for no reason in one month using any version of that old OS, than I do all year with Win XP

I've overclocked 400MHz K6-2's to 550MHz with ease before. WindowsXP and Windows98 handle the same, although I only recommend WindowsXP with at least 500MHz and 128mb of RAM. Definately don't use the stock cooler, get something rated for a 1GHz Duron. And the MOST important thing is to stay away from Super Socket 7 motherboards with flaky chipsets like the Aladdin 5 (ALi)!!! ETEQ and some others made good Super Socket 7 chipsets such as used on the SOYO 5EMA.

Kinda funny that you mention that Necro, back when I was running 98 on my main rig (only rig at that time) I rarely had a Blue Screen, let alone a BSOD. On the computer I brought home from work though (733MHz P III) I get lock ups all the time. I am guessing hardware made a huge difference for Win 98. I also heard that upgrading from 95 to 98 back then gave many people headaches so I did a fresh install, maybe that helped in my situation.

i'm glad that someone else agrees with me windows 98 SE is a good little OS, IMO i too hardly get a BSOD, as long as you get the updates that are REALLY needed then it shouldn't be a problem....
