Question Installing Windows 2000...

Well i seem to be having some trouble - it says i 'am running a newer version of windows and the setup function will now be disabled' (or something like that maybe).

Now, I dont want to reformat, but after searching around for a while, i still can't figure out how to install win2k without reformatting, installing 2000 first, and then installing winXP again. I have decided to forgo this route via the fact that im just too damn lazy.

any suggestions?

ffs help me out some plz,

Are you laying 2000 over the current XP install, or on a seperate partition.

I don't believe the first is possible, and honestly, I have no idea why you'd want to.

Please expound further what all you're doing

If you have XP on there now you can just reinstall it over itself no problem.
In fact, if you only have Windows on a C partition and you have all your proggies on another partition, you most likely will not have any problems running these programs after the reinstall. In other words, you shouldn't have to reinstall all your programs, but maybe a few.

Are you trying to do a dual boot configuration, so that you can run either win2k or xp?

I have done this succesfuly - however I installed Win 2k first, then Windows XP. Worked smoothly. You will need seperate partitions for EACH version of Windows. With your other partition you will need a total of 3.

My cousin took a clase that REQUIRED Windows 2000 - some networking class. After spending all the time setting up the dual boot for him he mostly uses Windows XP with the classic interface. The instructor cant tell the difference - obviously he has to boot into 2K when doing stuff thats OS specific but thats fairly rare as this is one cheasy class.

Thats prolly the best reason I can think of to run Win xp and 2000. Sounds like network+ or something like that.
