Hola all! it's been a week or two since i've posted. I am having a problem with a friends PC.

I built this rig for a friend and he has had alot of problems with it, so i'm trying to make sure that it's kept running smoothly for him.

here is the current issue.

When i installed XP he had Administrative control he had no password set, it was just black (i think) That really doesn't matter much now, what happens is he boots it up, and it'll say that his other profile is corrupt and he is logged on as a temporary profile. Obviously this creates a clean desktop and he gets freaked and thinks that his programs are gone. I just shot him an email explaining that that is NOT the case LOL. But the problem remains. he can't logon as admin.

Can he just go to the profile manager in the system tools and create a new admin profile?

And do you guys know where you can disable the auto-change of the password, or at least set it to not change every month?

Try booting into safe mode... I believe that is F8 as windows is booting. That may allow you to log in with out the corrupt file thing happening and then you can transfer admin privledges to a new profile/user so that you can still get to these functions.

Yes, if the name he is logged on with has administrative priviledges. If he current account is a limited account I believe you won't even have access to add a new user.

Start => All Program => Administrative Tools => Local Security Policy...

    Once program to loads in the left menu (window is explorer style) navigate to...

Security Settings => Account Policies => Password Policy => Maximum Password Age & Minimum Password Age -- set both to 0 (zero).
