Question Laptop help...

Yes, i know this isnt the thread for PC help but I know that I will get an answer quicker posting it in here. (EDIT: See Note Below...) So here it goes. MY dad recently purchased a new laptop because his old one had toakin a poop on him. So today I blew the dust off of it, plugged it in and started it up. It turns on on, thats the good thing. But the first screen that comes up is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."
Of course the first thing I tried was holding f1 all that crap, nothing seems to work.
And I dont have a BIOS update disk. SO i come to you for help in finding where I could burn a BIOS update disk? or what I should do....
Thanks in advance

Edit: Moved thread to Correct Forum...It will get plenty of attenetion where it belongs as it spends time on the front page....Thanks...Digi

Call the maker of the company. You cant download a generic bios from anywhere else. Sounds like maybe the BIOS battery is dying.

What kind of laptop is it? I would go to the manufacturers web site first to see what I could find (you've probably done that already though, haven't you).

First try F2 or Insert, if to no avail, try every F-__ key and also home, end, and delete.
Something has gotta tell the fuxxor to read from A:\

Damn OEM PC's...

So i unplugged it and was about to give up when I see a little teeny button that says reset, what the heck... so I pushed it a couplpe of time. I turn it on, to see if the puter works and for good measure, i turned it off and tried to turn it on again to make sure it worked...I didnt think that it would work, and it didnt. So now its back to the same window of the BIOS update crap.

Hmm - is it possible that the computer could have been dropped or something similar that would cause a jumper to dislodge from the motherboard or do they usually not put said BIOS Clear jumpers on lappys???
