Tycoon, they say an unprotected comp can get a virus within 15 sec of hitting the internet. In other words, before you can possibly get online to update virus definitions and patch your system with security patches.

The only way to pull this off is to begin from another machine, download everything you need and burn to CD, then install and update from the CD on your machine before you go online.

AVG has an excellent free scanner: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php only problem with it is you have to register it with them and have them send you a keycode.

It's kept me virus free and works smashingly. I have it update and scan every night.

lcpiper is right, if youre not patched youre left wide open, and that blaster worm can nail ya in a matter seconds.

Most of the patches for that round of worms will fit on a floppy disk, if you have a floppy drive that is.

Heres a good online scanner that might help you out.
