Hi,

I formatted a friends Dell laptop as it was getting all clogged up but she didn't have a recovery disk. My plan was to formatt then put a copy of Windows XP Pro that i have on disk and use her legit key. Tried that but it said invalid key, so i downloaded the Dell version of Windows and it still says the key is invalid. I have a work around but i'd rather get it activated i mean she does have a legit key stickered to her laptop. Any reason why it would be doing this? Do i need to phone Microsoft up?(obviously won't mention the whole formatting thing).

Another question is that i downloaded all the drivers but i cannot find the Network driver, it's the only one with a yellow question mark. I'm not sure what exactly i need to download. Is there any information i could post here that would make it easier to find what driver i need? The laptop model is a Latitude D800.

For the network driver - go to Drivers & Downloads

As for the XP key, you should be able to call Microsoft, she does have a legit key, and it's not illegal, LOL to format your computer, so I would let them know that I formatted and that windows won't accept my key...

On the link Beetle posted, you can enter the service number off the laptop and it should give you the exact drivers you need. Or download all the network cards and try them till it works.

Ah ok, i wasn't sure if downloading more than one driver would mess something up. I'll do that then thanks.

Sounds lke her COA is XP home, that should be the only reason why it would not go. You can download all the drivers as many times as you want for any service tag on any dell.

Well on the sticker it has xp pro, so i figured it would work on that.
