Default what the f is wrong with my computer: boot disk failure

ok so I got a 640gig hdd to put in, other hdd's i have are 35g raptor, and 2 80gig ide drives. the first 2 are sata. So i unplug one of the IDEs to put in an enlosure and install the 640, then I go to start her back up and get message after ASUS screen the says

BOOT DISK FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

or something like that. whatever I dont fight it so I reformat with the hdd's already setup how I want, except my IDE was outside my case for testing purposes. Reformat and install everything, then I turn her off, unplug hdd, install in case, replug it AND GET THE SAME F'ING MESSAGE

At first i thought it was because my boot.ini had 2 os's in it 1 from the raptor and 1 from the IDE from a previous install. But after my 1st reformat i had the raptor, an 80gig STRICTLY DATA no windows folders, and a blank 600gig! sigh.

Also a good question for speed and such, I dont play many games but i do use media alot. should i install windows on the 600 gig with my media, or windows on the raptor and maybe install itunes on the 600 gig to play the media. I have been using raptor for OS and other drives for data but there may be better way...

Thank you all very much

Ide and Sata drives dont work well on some mobo's.
Make sure their not on the same channel

On my mobo I cant run an Ide drive with a Sata optical drive on some channels ,had to play around with which sata ports I used...

Have you tried just running the boot drive?

If I had a choice ,I'd run the O.S on the fastest drive available, and use the rest as storage

Its trying to boot the drive that doesnt have the OS on it.. Or its trying to boot the sata drive before ide? Its your boot order in other words! Try just running the main drive and unplug all of the rest.. Then start one at a time.. while your pc is running you can connect your sata drives!

i have tried using just my raptor with a proper OS installed and I'm pretty sure I still get it. I also think it's a finicky MOBO issue. I correct my boot order and my hdd order in the bios with no luck. I will make HDD secondary IDE channel and CD's primary.

Have you tried something easy? replacing the Ide cable! Or sata cable!

When you say you corrected the boot order in the BIOS, did you try every possible combination for the boot order of the drives? Windows does some strange things with boot loaders and such...

Personally, I think the bios settings are incorrect. If your getting an invalid boot media and you have an OS installed on one of the drives. It seems as though its configured to boot from the Non OS drive. I have seen this on many occasions including my own, when a ide drive is added with a sata drive it defaults to ide. Now, i may be right and i may be wrong but i would have another look into the bios. Check the order of the hard drives and not boot priority. Boot priority setting are only going specify what device to boot. Whether it be a floppy, hard drive, cdrom, etc. Be sure that the sata drive is at the top of the list.

I do hope its something this simple........

If it doesnt fix the problem. Please include your motherboard make and model. So we all can have a look.

I can't see where he said he tried that, I think he needs to get into BIOS and set boot order....

EDIT: Just found where he said that....

I have added a pic to show you what im talking about. If hard drive #1 isnt the sata drive it will boot from the whatever drive is in the #1 spot. I do hope that clarify's what im explaining.
