Default Word using Japanese settings, bad

I used to have Japanese support on my computer to read a few things, before I realised, hey what is the point, I do not know what any of this means anyway, no need to make it display right. So I installed Office 2003, started up word, and there are various options like Japanese search and manipulation of Japanese chars, and in the autocorrect as you type or something options many entries are Japanese. Also the ruler is in centimeters, as well as the print setup until i fixed that. So I uninstall all Japanese stuff, reboot, uninstall Office, reboot, and reinstall Office. Same problems. What do I do to fix this?

Running:
Windows XP SP1
AXP 1700+ JIUHB 166x12 (2600+)
512MB 3200 DDR (2x256@less than 3200)

Try this:

Open up Word. Click "Tools" > "Language" > "Set Language" > "English."

The reinstall of Windows... I just might do that, though it will be a pain. I have tried the Windows settings I could think of though, setting all the regional and language settings to English. It could just be that I got a European/International edition by mistake, though that does not seem a likely error for even Microsoft to make.

I figured out a solution, resetting everything to defaults, lord only knows why it was not already at defaults when I first installed. Still, a reinstall of Windows is looking mighty tasty in other areas: my CD burner not working -- more on that later, in a difference thread -- and stuff regcleaner does not detect that sticks around.

Another problem has come up now. I live in the USofA, true, but I prefer British spelling. I wish to use the English (UK) dictionary and not the English (US) dictionary. How do I activate the one and disable the other?
