Default To NTFS or not to NTFS??

That is the question ..... lolll!!

Here it is ;
I use Dual Booting Win98se & Win XP Pro. on a 40 GB Maxtor 7200 2 partition all Fat32

I use Fat32 because this way if , i'm in 98se & i need something from my second partition (D:Win xp) i dont have to reboot in xp i just go & get it true 98se , if i use NTFS for XP then i dont see my D: drive when i'm in 98se.

Ok , now the real question ;

Is the NTFS is slower then Fat32? cuz i remember way back when i was using Fat16 because it was faster then fat32 but that didn't last with me cuz having in those days 2 HD of 600 MB each on a P1 133 i liked the idea of having a bit more space with the Fat32.

Anyhow is it the same NTFS vs Fat32 for speed??
I know that , it is more secure (NTFS) then the Fat32 , the NTFS 5 his anyways.

Thx!

NTFS is faster and has security and other special features. You should be able to see the fat32 drive while in WinXP.

I'd recommend NTFS personally, but it just depends on how much stuff you'd need from the NTFS drive, if you keep it all mirrored, no issues.

And honestly, I'd just, use XP Pro all the time unless you specifically need something.

yeah i know true xp i can get to 98se (C)

I'm kepping 98 for older games like Dos games & Some windows games that doesn't work on XP & i just like the idea to be able to go to xp true 98 cuz if i miss some space for a game on 98 (C) i can always install it on xp (D)

& i find this ;

http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm

But anyways i'll go NTFS for XP so if i miss space on 98 well then i'll erase a game that i dont use anymore & install the other one .....until I buy a bigger HD cuz i do some video editing on XP so...................NTFS it is.

Thx! for your anser anyways.

okay, here's the way I go.

Install XP on NTFS.
for dos games, use DOSbox
OR
You can always use VMware and run 98 inside of XP. I use that sometimes.

also, with Low on small volumes high on large what they probably mean is that NTFS is great for bigger HDDs, but slower than FAT32 when you're using a drive that's only a couple gigs. I use NTFS for all 320GB of my hdd space and I couldn't love it more.

Or you can just use the run in older modes in win xp.. It has a nice feature where you can run games in 98 mode or 95 mode..And the dos box he is probably talkign about is the command box. You go to start-run and type cmd.

DOSbox - http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/ a software aplication for playing older dos-based games that keeps them at the proper speed. fun stuff.

VMWare - http://www.vmware.com/ You gotta buy it (supposedly), but it's software that creates a small virtual computer inside the program. you can then adjust the settings on this computer and install an OS, all while inside your existing operating system.

Hope that helps.

Do you like copying DVD's or plan on doing so in the future? Better go NTFS then.
