Default Can a processor change make a blue screen happen?

I just switched my server's processor from a 1.4 athlon to a athlonxp 1600+ (not a big increase, but whatever) . I booted it up, expecting to see windows load up for me...and nothing but a blue screen. The computer is running Windows 2000.

I'm pretty sure that's what did it, but I don't really know how to FIX it other than swapping the processors back, or reformatting. I don't really want to format, as there are two drives in raid 0, and they have lots of thing on them that I don't want to lose.

Thanks

that shouldnt be a problem, as long as thats all you changed. i know there is something you can remove in windows, a regestry that holds your info on it.

Red02 thats correct. i had XP on a HD prior to my processor/mobo/mem. upgrade I was expecting to see XP boot up like normal and it didnt. I ended up formatting the HD and then it worked ok, i guess XP stores info in the Registry about your current system hardware configurations.

When you changed the CPU, did you check hardware/BIOS stuff like FSB? Might be you're running an unintentional overclock(enough to give windows a hernia), probably unlikely although still worth checking.

Twizted posted this a while back. http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....=Registry+move You might want to give this a try. If that fails try a repair install.

Cha-Ching! Thanks Hojo, that did the trick. I switched processors out, deleted taht key, and put it back in..and it's booted up beautifully. Thanks everyone for the help, and sorry I took so long to respond. I had school all day, and PR is blocked there. After that, I had to go to work...so, thanks a bunch

Don't thank me, thank Twizted. OK, you can thank me, but it was Twizted that really came up with the answer.
