Default HELP: 56K Modem not installing right

I just installed a new ABIT nf7-s and the 56k modem won't install properly.
Actually it tries to install on com-ports 3-10 plug and play puts it on all 8 ports.
I try to delete them, but they just keep installing back, none of which work to get on-line.
lost without access Zenz...

I'm not really sure what to suggest ... the last time I had modem install problems, I deleted every scrap related to the modem & rebooted a couple of times until the "new hardware found" whizzard appeared... then used the generic 56k driver.

It was the biggest pain in the ass for me to instal my modem in a customers rig, had to upgrade from 95 to XP for anything to work. But then just used generic driver and it was all good. Zennz, are you on Dial-up?

yes, dial up is the only thing available out here in the sticks...I have tried to delete every thing having to do with the modem, went out and got a new one...the wizzard does come up but the bastard tries to pot it and a "simple PCI controller of every port ...HELP!! already did a complete format and install of XP....

Ok once you remove all the drivers and everything reboot with-out the card. Then install it in a different PCI slot then the one it was in and bam! that should work.

You can also try changing the IRQ or disabling the onboard LAN.

I've always done similar to Red's suggestion with good results.
Remove the modem in "Device Manager" as well.

Zenz - what kind of modem? Probably a USR....

They don;t play nice with XP. I had a brand new USR in here Friday...worked fine in a 2000 box, but in an XP box the MF'er would pick up, but not dial.

Took it back to the store and traded it for an Aopen model...5 bucks cheaper - first connection got 52mbps

Ya ive had problems with USR the one i had brand new wouldnt let go of the line. When i would tell it to disconnect it would stop the connection, but tie up the phone line. So i got some cheapo one i found in my boneyard that worked just as great. That was now 1 year ago, now on DSL and havent looked back
