Default Windows dosent shut down when i tell it too.

Whenever i go to start and click turn off computer and click the turn off button the computer restarts. So whenever i have wanted to turn of the computer i have just had to use the power button on the comp isnt good for it. It's been doing it since we built the computer around Christmas and i just havent got around to finding out why it wont shut down. Do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks
Blaze

Question Listing

and list your OS. Win98 is notorious for this problem ... I haven't heard of it with XP but that doesn't mean anything [in and of itself].

My problem was with XP, but you are right, I should have said to list OS also.

I had the same problem with my Gigabyte GA-7IXEH in Windows XP Pro, try disabling Instant off in the power settings in the BIOS, you know how you can choose between 4 second delay and instant off, on some boards if you select Instant Off in BIOS the PC will just restart itself. Set it to 4 sec. delay.

I know when I had that problem in XP (power button 4 sec delay in BIOS) It was due to my logitech keyboard software, got the newest version, had no probs since.

I have had this problem on older hardware trying to use XP, My K6-2 500 would say " It is now safe to shut down your computer"

After running a benchmark at PCPITSTOP it said I had error code 22, check disabled devices.
When I went to windows to find out the code, it told me to try this:

Go to device manger, click "Show hidden devices" You may then see the "Legacy node" is disabled. Just enable it!!!
