Unhappy XP Logon Problem

OK so I'm surfing the net and something happens and IE crashes. From there, no page will open, so basically I cant use IE. So I decided to ask my friend (on AIM) to send me the install wizard for IE 6. He did, then I open it and install it. Near the end it required a restart. So I did.
Now, after I type in my password, it takes about one minute to log on, and another three minutes for my taskbar to finish loading. I have no clue what to do. Somebody help me!

Sounds like a virus, the virus might have did it when IE crashed now that you restarted the computer is just stsrting up the virus and its taking a long time. Run norton and spybot and adaware.

I would try Dimazz' suggestions first and then I would suggest maybe switching browsers.
I used to use IE 6 and I noticed that Mozilla Firebird works best for me (when viewing PR, at least) and Avant Browser is a close second with the small inconvenience (again, within PR) that I cannot right click on the "New Posts" link and open in a new tab. That is, unless GK fixes that problem or has fixed it already, haven't used AB for a while.
IE6 is also slower than both of these overall in my experience using a cable modem.

Press ctrl+alt+del and if svchost.exe is using 90-100% of cpu this has been happening to a lot of people, including me. Many people are fixing it in totally different ways. I fixed mine by turning on my routers firewall.
