Default 5 minute boot and random hardware malfunctions

Everytime I boot up I get past the post and then I can get past the boot screen but when the microsoft boot logo finishes the machine will just sit there with a blank screen for 4-5 minutes, I tested the two sticks of RAM I have by taking one out then the other I havn't yet tried taking them both out and using a new one though. I reinstalled windows xp and still the problem happed I have tried taking out pci cards incase something doesnt want to be part of the system and nothing worked also flashed the bios but still have the long boot, also the motherboard's little LCD display reads FF at the end of the post anyway which means the motherboard is fine. could it be the processor? as I also get random blue screen of death xp style which is an error saying

Hardwar Malfunction

Please call an operator

I have searched google and others who have got this error also got a real error log message with it but thats all I get.

anyone got any ideas?

Also does anyone know if FX51 prices are comign down soon? as I may just buy a new 64bit rig

specs -

Athlon XP 2400+
Windows XP Corporate SP1 (just installed)
GeForce FX5600 only bought a month ago
256MB + 512MB of PC2100 RAM

When you are posting one thing you will find among myself and other fellow members is that we all like neat and clean forums. This means double posting and double threads. I realize that this may have just been a mistake, but I just wanted to let you know before you get flamed. In the past members have "had at" some others for double posting and double threads.
If your thread doesn't look like it posted then give it a couple of minutes first and refresh your browser to see if it has posted. Also (before it happens) if you post a reply and then have something else you would also like to add to your post, be sure to use the edit button and edit your post, not just make another post immediatly after your last one.

Try using a legal copy of windows, and not spamming the forums with double posts.

As for your FX question, FX-51's are outperformed by the A64 3400+, which is less than half the price of the FX-51. Since FX prices arent coming down anytime soon, I would go with the A64 3400+.

sorry about the double post i didnt know what one it went into, I'll delete the other one. also i was using a legal copy it just Ihad already formatted twice so my old cd wont let me activate it anymore and I didn't fancy like paying £100 on something which I can just download for free.

thanks for comment on the FX-51
and I'll try the suggestions when I get home.
