Default Corrupt system file in XP?

I tried searching for this problem (with little luck) in the forums but only found something similar, not my exact problem.
Ok, so here is what is wrong:
I reinstalled XP on the PC at work and it ran fine for about 30 minutes and now everytime the computer is started it will not boot back into XP but rather give a message to the effect of "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt"
I have tried to run a repair install (for the first time no less) and ran into a wall when it put me at the windows prompt. What do I do next? Do I need to copy a file or several files from the CD?

System specs as far as I know are P4 1.8GHz in an IBM NetVista series midtower computer.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found a MS Knowledge Based article on it and am going to try their resolution. If it doesn't work, "I shall return!"

Default Corrupt System File In Xp

I Had The Same Problem About 3 Weeks Ago It Turned Out To Be A Bad Mem Chip !
You Have About 700 Or So Meg`s Try Pulling A Chip Then Try Installing Again.
Go Through The Whole Bank Of Mem Chip With An In-stall Between Each.
It Worked For Me.
Good Luck !

Dada.

Thanks for the suggestions but I already got it fixed a couple of days after the initial problem. And BA, I wish it had more than one HDD..... would make things at work a TON easier, especially the way those Mac junkies tend to fux0r up the PCs. I have 2 of tthe 3 PCs there now (with the exception of the file server which they rarely mess with anyway) admin passworded so that should solve some of the problems we have been having. Got 'em folding too.
