Default Vista Hardware Transition

Today is New Parts day.

I'm swapping out the Mobo and the CPU on my current rig for new ones, and I was wondering if I was going to have to do a new install of Vista, or would it just pick up. I know that in XP you either have to reinstall or there is a tweak that will let you through.

One more thing. My Board has crossfire. My PSU is a 550watt xfinity; considering getting another 2900PRO, its just 159$. Think I'd need a new PSU?

Thanks in advance.

I think you may have to call Microsoft and reactivate but I'm pretty sure that is a pain free process.

And I would probably go for a new PSU if you're going to add another 2900Pro since they eat tons of power.

What motherboard you running Yunk? If it's Intel P35 I would suggest upgrading to at least an 8x8 lane board.

I'm sure you'll have to re-activate. You may have to re-install if your using
different chipsets. I swapped out one 680i mobo for another without re-installing
but I still had to re-activate. Good Luck :-)

I hope you double checked the fit of the new board, even vetrans forget to check stand-offs from time to time. As far as the PSU goes you are pushing the limit but should be fine. If you do have issues, feel to see the unit is getting warmer than normal, and if so you might want to hold off usen the the crossfire till you can upgrade your PSU.

Ya'll may scold me, but this is what I purchased.

Newegg.com - ASUS M2R32-MVP AM2 AMD 580X CrossFire ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Newegg.com - AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor - Retail

I am in the interest of promoting innovation... I am using a Coolermaster GeminiII
to cool it. I just need to get another set of 120mms for it... which I am in the process of. Additional Suggestions for fans, hell does anybody have some fans for sale??

I just put a new PC together and used all my spare fans. I would suggest getting a couple
of the Silverstone FM121's. There adjustable from 800-2400 rpm with a max of 110 cfm.
At low speed there just as quiet as a pair of Nexus fans and at full speed you'll get excellant
airflow for your best oc on air. Silverstones are always my 1st choice, I bet I've bought at
least a dozen of them :-)

Congrats on picking the AMD. I'll probably use AMD as well for my next system though I'll be spending a heck of a lot less.

I also second Slay's recomendation; those Silverstone's are great fans. Course something like this might be a little more fun....

Haha, thanks. Though I'm not sure I can justify payin' 50 bucks a fan. I think I'll go with the Silverstones.

I have a couple of these I tried out when I reviewed a Geminii. They really
didn't help that much. A couple of degrees at best. And they sound like Jet
Engines with the afterburners at 100%. But if you want to try them out I
can arrange it :-)
