Question Windows Media Player

I'm going freakin' insane.

Did a fresh reformat two weeks ago but now everytime I download a .mpg from the internet, it'll play for the first few seconds, then I get a "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because it is damaged or corrupt."

So, I roll it back from WPM11 to WPM10.

Same problem.

Roll it back to WPM9.

Same problem.

So, I uninstall it all together, reinstall it.

Same problem.

Also, it'll only play so much of a YouTube video, then just stop. Even if I reload the page, it'll only play so far and just stop.

I know that I'm missing something simple here. HERE is the error code I'm receiving.

Any help?

What I have running:

WMP 11 in MS Vista Ultimate
Ogg Vorbis codecs
DiVX Pro codecs
Zune

Every now and again I get the same error, but for the most part, just about anything I click on, plays all the way through. Anything in .wmv/.wma format plays fine every time...

Maybe toss in a codec package? A buddy swears by Cole2K, and hasn't had much trouble in this area.

Hope that helps ya out...

you could try , like GPN said , a codec pack ......... I've used Klite

Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 3.6.5 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.6.5 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.6.5 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools

Or you could just D/L VLCPlayer , it'll play 99% of anything on the www

I'll second the K-Lite suggestion. It's always fixed any codec problems my friends or I have had.

Try the Vista Codec pack--it's guaranteed to be compatible with Vista so it shouldn't have any problems. K-Lite's also excellent as well.

And of course if you just want a stand alone player VLC and Gom are great.

GOM is spectacular, I use it all the time. But even GOM needs codecs once in a while (rarely, to be sure). So .. yep, I'll just chime in with the rest of the group and recommend a good codec pack, and a better media player.
