Default Pop Ups

Today i came home from school (computer was on all day) and i got about 2-3 taskbars full of pop ups. (the pr0n ones) i havent gone on it or anything. So im thinking its some crap so i run spybot and adaware and then i leave the computer on since 6:45 (its 8:50) and get home right now and there is still one that poped up. I dont know how to get to the last thing thats causeing it.

I really dont want to reinstal cause then i have to reinstal all my programs and all that crap. (and its a fairly new install)

Thanks

Check your ad/remove programs and see if there is anything that is out of the ordinary. If you have Norton Systemworks, look at the Installed Intenet Componets and Apps/Plugins...you might find it there.

Rerun Adaware and make sure it's updated...close all programs when you run it.

Also check the running processes, google the filenames of any that don't look familiar, you can find a lot of info that way.

I just went through something like this. I would run spybot and ad-aware and things would keep comming back then it all stoped. I cannot honestly say what I did to finally get rid of it. I was just glad I didn't have to reformat. Sorry I can't be of more help.

go to start/run and type in MSCONFIG

once it opens, go to the SERVICES tab

check the little box at the bottom that says HIDE ALL MICRO$OFT SERVICES

look thru the programs that are left behind and if any look suspicious, uncheck each and reboot

If you have tried everything mentioned above, you might want to consider Formatting and Reinstalling or hopefully restoring it from a backup (if you have one).

Before you give up, keep looking around your system and see if you can find something that is causing the problem. Don't know what else to tell ya. This is a hard one to trouble shoot without looking at your system.

Reminder to all: Use a Pop Up Blocker, Don't click where you should not and Don't install programs that could possibly contain crap like this.

A long as your Saving Files (ie Word Docs, Game Saves etc) and not System Files...you should be ok copying all your stuff so you do not lose it all.

But see what else you can do before you take that route...it might be worth your while to keep trouble shooting this.
