Default Shut Down During Reformat!

HP Presario v2000

I googled "computer shutting off during reformat" and found the same model coming first.

Right now it gets to "Windows is starting uP" in the blue screen of reformat and then the computer shuts off.

Ive already done a bios update and flashed it in ****.

Maybe it's an anemic-PSU issue? I had a box which would shutdown on install unless I downclocked it to 50% of stock. The issue was PSU.

How's the battery life on the lappy? The first thing that comes to mind is if there's a short in the power cord and the laptop is running off of the battery and it runs outta juice during format, that could very well be the issue.

Being that this is a laptop, we can't really test for anemic power other than yanking the battery and seeing if it runs properly.

Beyond that, I'll poke the net myself and see if I can shake any information out.

I agree that this is most likely a power/battery issue.

Another way to check to see if the brick is powering the laptop is to turn the machine on plugged in, then unplug it. when you unplug it the LCD should dim a bit, this is a power saving device that most laptops have at the hardware level.

Beyond that there could be a hardware problem. A good test is to go to memtest86.com get the memtest bootable ISO and you can test the systems RAM. If it passes that rules out the RAM and shows that the system is fairly stable.

There could be an overheating issue with the chipset, i've had to fix this on many laptops lately.
