First off, we will be better able to help with some system specs - Motherboard information, processor type, ram, any cards . . . The full layout.

Secondly, generally when I get a black screen during an install but it has started, there may be a problem with your ram. Try moving the ram into a different slot if you only have one stick, or just remove a stick if you have two. Try it again.

And if that doesn't work, wait around a little while and someone will be along to provide better help that I can.

Have you tired a different OS disc. Just to make sure the XP disc isn't damaged, dirty or written poorly. (I don't know if you've used it before)

This is the key, at least in my mind. That all the software is having the same problem takes the software out of the loop for being the problem. This now means we have to completely focus on hardware issues.

You tried testing the ram and that didn't produce any results. Next step is to make sure all of your fans on the motherboard are working and all the heatsinks are secure. Check the cpu cooling fan as well, and if you can, remove it, clean the thermal goop off the cpu and cooling block, add new goop and reseat the block.

In this way, you are trying to eliminate overheating.

Also, this would be a good time to clean out any dust (if there is any) and to try to arrange the wiring so you get maximum airflow through the case.

Of course, this presumes you aren't watercooling.

#1 - only have bare minium hardware installed ( your single stick of 1gb ram , video card if no on-board is available, 1 cd-rom, 1 HDD, cpu and main board)

If you've tryed sevral disks and none are working .............

Try a different cable for the cd-rom , try a different cd-rom drive , try using a drive that is read only **not a burner**, try burning your OS disk again at very slow speed.

You can also try this , but seeing as the rig see's the disk and just isnt loading its most likely NOT the cause. Use a cable for the CD-Rom and connect it to primary, connect your HDD to a cable connected to secondary. This wat each device is on a seperate cable

Also if using one cable , set the cd-rom to master and the HDD to slave , until install is done then you can switch them.

Ok , im out of ideals AND COFFEE , hope some / one of these fixes your boggle
